Postmortem: First Sprint!

posted on Jul 28, 2020 by L James

We tried something different in late June and early July, and we think it shows promise.

Overview

I spent some time earlier this year implementing a basic project management system that can now be publicly viewed at the Lab. This way we can organize what needs to be done, and members can see what we’re up to as well. We want to be more transparent with what we’re working on, especially for paying members.

The first sprint ran from June 24 to July 11, 2020 and mostly consisted of work on the Wild Hunt project. It was to include other story work as well, but we never got around to adding specific tasks for them. Despite this, Meg continued working on Bottle World and Vanguard during this time as well.

Task review

We didn’t get all the tasks done, but I outlined the Wild Hunt project entirely and got started on some other development on it. Additionally, I wrote up some roundup posts which will be public and a tutorial for Stardust members. These will go out in the near future, so keep an eye out!

Part of the reason I didn’t finish all the tasks was simply that I had other work. Freelance work picked up late in the sprint and I wanted to take it while the opportunities presented themselves.

Next Sprint

The next sprint will involve more work on Wild Hunt, and we’ll have a more realistic idea of what we can accomplish. Additionally, I’ll personally be working on scheduling my time so I can work smarter on both story projects and freelance work.
