We’re always looking for ways to tell better stories and provide a better experience to our supporters and fellow storytellers. After a lot of work and planning, we’ve implemented what we think is the best option.

We’ve added membership options on Azdion as a way to give more to those who support our work.

You might recall our debut on Patreon a while back, and wonder what’s different about this. And that’s a good question! In fact, if you’re a member on Patreon, you can continue your subscription over there and reap the rewards of full membership here (you can contact us or private message us over there for details). However, with membership fully supported on our site, we can do so much more than we could on Patreon alone. Read on:

Early Access and Exclusive Content

This is one of the most obvious benefits – we can offer early access or exclusive content right on this site. As you read a comic (for example), you can seamlessly read early access pages as part of your membership instead of getting to the end of Azdion’s uploads and having to click over to your Patreon dash to read more.

After a lot of deliberation, we’re also planning more exclusive content for members. We weren’t sure about hosting special exclusive content on a third-party site that may not have our (and your) best interests in mind, but using our own website affords us more security that exclusive content won’t be pulled from under everyone’s noses unexpectedly. We control the site, and the backups!

Member Discounts and Specials

We also have a better-integrated online store. Relying on both Patreon and Selz made extra shop perks annoying and difficult to work with, and as a result we never really offered special discounts, sales, or gifts to patrons. That’s ludicrous, since it’s one of the most obvious membership perk ideas.

We’ve moved all our digital goods right onto Azdion, using the same system that powers our memberships. We’re also looking into our options for physical goods like stickers and prints, so in the future we can offer members special discounts or even exclusive access to certain items.

Members-First Focus

This is perhaps the biggest reason for our move to on-site membership. Shortly after we began our page on Patreon, they announced some troubling changes to their fee structure and how they would charge patrons. They weren’t clear on how their numbers worked and essentially wanted to shift a lot of fees onto you guys.

Although Patreon went back on this plan and didn’t implement these changes, it’s since begun to look like they’re more focused on pleasing a handful of investors over the thousands of creators and patrons that actually use their service. We made this move largely because we wanted to focus only on you guys, and not rely on the whims of a third-party startup answering to the faceless suits making expensive business gambles on them.

What does this mean for me, the average story fan?

What does this mean for you? Well to start with, nothing is going to change on Azdion for non-members. You can still read stories and blog posts as we publicly post them, even if you can’t afford a membership.

Occasionally you might see notices that some content is reserved for members only. You’re not getting less than you did before – this is just content that previously would have been hidden away on Patreon or only available for sale.

As always, we will still post free content as we’re able to work on stories. And as more story enthusiasts decide to take advantage of membership to Azdion, we will be able to dedicate more time to both members-only and free content. Everyone wins.

If you think membership might be for you, jump on it! At the moment, prices are 50% off if you use the coupon code “bugcatching2019“. Otherwise, prices range from a cheap coffee to a ticket to the latest controversial movie everyone on social media wants to hate-watch.

As always, member or not: thank you for supporting Azdion! Keep an eye out for new stories, posts, and more.
